Managing chaos: another move amid so much else
I finally have a date set for my next move. Yes, I'm moving again. Clearly this is not my favorite pasttime, but to the untrained Sugarpacket reader it might appear as if I enjoy packing up all my possessions every 5-6 months or so and schlepping them miles away...
Since starting graduate school in January I've braved the hour-long drive from my parents' house to IUP and back three days a week. Wintertime extended my travel time, taking away from my studying/sleeping time, and proved to me that I should be so lucky to survive the treacherous roads under unsavory conditions. And then there are gasoline prices, which show no signs of relenting... Plus, my needs as a grad student are evolved beyond those I had as an undergrad, making my current location somewhat frustrating as I plan trips around needs, rationing gas and parking money.
May 3rd I plan to move to an apartment closer to the University. I'm going to have a roommate this time (other than my puppy, Trixie). One of my colleagues, Kayla, has been commuting a longer distance than I have, so when we started talking about moving closer to the school our paths seemed to collide rather easily since we also are on the same academic path (we both started mid-year this past January and plan to graduate next May).
I'm excited about the move. It's crazy right now, trying to plan another move, finish my first semester's work, prepare for the nine credits I'm taking this summer, figure out my new position at IUP's Writing Center, and freelance like there's no tomorrow... But it's managed chaos.
Right now all I can think of is all the extra time I'm going to have since I won't be driving to and fro! I can walk Trixie more, spread out my readings a bit, eat real food, and maybe knit or do something I enjoy. Good things are on the horizon. :)
