Who shot the pool?

A few weeks ago my mom called me and asked if I was sitting down. I assured her that I was, and prepared myself for bad news. My aunt was in the hospital at the time, so my heart started racing at the thought of what this might mean.

"Someone shot the pool."

I was silent and then I laughed. "What do you mean, someone shot the pool?!"

We have no idea how it happened. It's not a paintball or BB gun puncture. It's a bullet hole. Some woods line the edge of our backyard, but no one hunts there. If bullets are raining down from the hillside where people do hunt, maybe there's cause for concern...

They tore down our swimming pool today. My backyard looks bizarre. It's like a meteor crashed into our yard but its impact was about six inches deep with a 27' diameter. A giant shallow dirt hole where once summer solace laid.

Later today we're getting a new pool put up (scratch that... The truck just pulled in!). I will never skimp on insurance. Ever. I will always pay insurance premiums and try not to complain. Living with my family, it's hard to ignore how much insurance has come in handy... house fire, my injury from a car accident, my dad's two years of not working and the disability insurance he had, now our pool.

But yeah, my best friend asked me if, by chance, we had put antlers on our pool...
Wow.

If your buddies call you up excited to shoot pool, and you end up wet and in jail - you might be a redneck.

Sorry, I just made that one up.

That's awful, Karissa. Thank goodness for insurance. I was going to suggest making a pond if you weren't getting a new one, but that's awesome. I bet despite the initial shock of it all and the tearing down/installation process, it's fantastic to enjoy a brand new pool.

Take care.

Haha, thanks for that, Stormy. Very apropos. It's been an interesting situation to deal with. The insurance adjuster didn't believe us at first, but when the bullet came out while the guys tore down the old pool this morning... yeah, now they believe us.

No, thank you, for teaching me a new word! =)

That's just like adjusters, isn't it? I think in the year 2008 people are smart enough to recognize a bullet hole when they see one...I mean, really now, duh.

I'm just thankful it was your pool and not something irreplaceable.
