Addressing addresses
I never finish a roll of address labels.
This morning I took out the roll from my Monroeville address and threw them away. I won't be needing them anymore now that I've moved again. It's become a ritual each time I move, one I never gave much thought till today.
With the exception of the apartment I had near IUP last summer, I have been compelled to buy address labels when I move. I did it for Harrisburg, I did I for Monroeville... and I'm thinking about doing it now. I suppose it has to do with making things feel official for myself. I've completed all my address changes (dozens, it seems, when you add up the online updates), and I've begun paying utilities at my new place. Having to write out my new address becomes cumbersome all too quickly. It's easier to slap a sticker on a return address field than spell it all out by hand. I use to think that I might not send enough mail to warrant address labels, but I do. Bills, primarily, but I do mail other things.
I'll probably order address labels as soon as I'm done typing this blog. If I wait long enough, though, charities from all over will send me address labels with their letter asking for a donation. I always feel strange using those, though, if I didn't contribute something. I sent a check last year to the injured veterans fund or something like that because I liked their address labels--they were really beautiful! I would have felt really guilty using such beautiful address labels without doing something. I'm a pushover for that stuff sometimes. My guilt threatens to eat my sanity and I give in.
Hopefully I'll live at this address long enough to use the whole roll of stickers this time. It's cliché, but only time will tell.

Karissa, you silly writer you, don't you own a printer? Buy blank labels at the office supply store and use the template in your word processor to print them yourself! I use the Avery 8167 size and print a sheet when I need to... Save your shipping charges too!
