While visiting Amanda Cochran's weblog, I read her take on the media coverage of the celebrity romance between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. While I agree with Amanda that the coverage of this Hollywood couple and their recent breakup is ridiculous, I know there is some kind of reasoning behind the coverage. Despite the masses who are complaining about the non-stop coverage, there is undoubtedly a large portion of Hollywood-obsessed people who are craving more and more on this star couple.
An interesting article at msn.com sheds light on why so many people are fascinated with Jennifer. According to Ken Baker, a West Coast executive editor of Us Weekly, the reason Lopez is so successful and popular is because “People, especially women, feel they can identify with her even though she’s extremely wealthy. There’s an authenticity to her, despite all the bling-bling. They think, ‘I’d do the same thing.'”
I think Baker offers an intersting take on the relationship people form with celebrities, people with whom most of us will never have personal contact. Perhaps the people that Baker is describing are suffering from Celebrity Worship Syndrome. A study printed in New Scientist magazine revealed that one third of people are affected by this disorder.
And on that note: Bon Jovi is buying a football team! Wheeehooo!

J-Lo thing very closely, but I agree with you. We can't get upset at something that is obviously causing a great stir in Hollywood. People are always goin to want to know what is going on with their favorite celebs, and Jennifer and Ben were the ideal couple, but on the upside...Ben is now free game again! lol!
