Ep.2 The Reason of Marriage

In this scene, the Young Woman is in a desperate need to get married. She believes that it the only way that she can live a happy life. After hearing this, her Mother just simply called her crazy. Do you think that marriage is essential in life. It's almost everybody goal in life, right? Get married, have kids, and live in a huge house with the white picket fence. During the Salem Witch Trials, women who were single thought to be withes and were simply...killed. I personally don't think that marriage should be the goal in everyone agenda. Don't you know that they're some people out there who can't stand to have a family? So, what do you think about this?

Yes, the Young Woman wants to get married, but she is not necessarily desperate to do it at this point in the play. She just feels that if she doesn't marry her boss, she will lose her job, but if she does marry him then she doesn't have to worry so much about making ends meet and supporting her mother.
But, no I don't think marriage is for everyone. Some people are perfectly content not being married, and for some people not having a family is better. But, I do agree that most people seem to want someone to share their life with, someone who is a witness to thier exsistance. A happy marriage can surely leave a person feeling fulfilled. But, unfortunately there are too many people in a hurry to get married for the wrong reasons and that is why so many have "empty" marriages. And unfortunately, the Young Woman feels the need to marry out of necessity, and that is what makes the story so sad.

Well said, Lorin.

Although I want to earn my degree and go on to teach, my life goal is to get married and raise a family; that's what I've always wanted, but I understand that that life is not for everyone.
Great point about "empty marriages," Lorin. Now men and women have a lot more options, so getting married isn't a neccessity.

MARRIAGE IS FOR PROCREATION & COMPANIONSHIP. MORE ESPECIALLY, IT'S FOR ADULTS ONLY THAT'S WHY IT'S NOT FOR EVERY BODY.
