I recently saw a story on a morning television show about how The Girl Scouts have changed over the past ten years and I have to say it really was fascinating. They [the scouts] aren't just about selling cookies anymore, but rather center a lot of their activities around science. In the particular segment I was watching Girl Scouts participated in a robotics building competition similar to robot wars. Now if this kind of cool stuff would have been part of The Girl Scouts when I was younger I just might have joined them! Another part of the story featured a girl that created oxygen kits for pets that were part of fire rescues [dog, cat, and even hamster]. She raised enough money to supply these kits to firehouses in her area.
This kind of stuff really gets to me. I am glad that The Girl Scouts are re-modeling their activities to fit he modern day girl. Some other science events that The Girl Scouts are participating in can be found on their national website. I mean they must be doing something right if Dolly Parton became a Girl Scout in 2008! Kudos to The Girl Scouts of America for being totally awesome and at the forefront of female modernity.
