Dreams Mean This, This, and...Wow! Look at the bunnies!

Yes, that's sometimes how dreams go. Lots of scientists and new-age folks can spout off to you the hidden meanings behind what goes in your dreams. Me? I've dreamt a lot lately, (probably due to running myself ragged over tests and projects for the end of the semester!) so I've decided to set my final project for my Writing for the Internet class in a dream.

I've nearly finished creating an interactive fiction (IF) game. I was greatly inspired by my professor, Dr. Jerz, and his drive to formulate an IF game. (If you have no idea what I'm talking about or even how to play this type of game, take a gander at Dr. Jerz's How-To page to IF games.)

The player starts off in a dreamscape, but I've tried to write things so that they seem at least mildly plausible, just to give it the feel of one of those dreams that you would swear they felt real. The beginning is all fluff and fun before it becomes darker in theme. I've included various puzzles throughout, but the real key is to play the game as if you were really in in the game. It's time to use your imagination people! Look at the doors 'n the floors, 'n all the wondrous galores!

I also borrowed a theme element from Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Masque of the Read Death." There are three rooms that I've tried to place moral significance upon, but I'd be happy if you just found them of plain ol' interest. In response to these three rooms, the player can also choose three options of ending the game by drinking one of three drinks. Each ending relates to one of the three moral rooms and hopefully gives the player something to think on...if only for a moment.

I've still a bit to go, but my course mates and friends have been excellent in offering me new ideas and better user-friendly ways of playing the game.

Now, go check out what my classmates are typing on their blogs.
