Lehman, ''The World Trade Center'' (1996) -- Jerz: American Lit II (EL 267)
The World Trade Center
The twin towers were ugly monoliths
That lacked the details the ornament the character
Of the Empire State Building and [especially]
The Chrysler Building, everyone's favorite,
With its scalloped top, so noble.
I think that this was very interesting because he refers to them as ugly "monoliths". I mean the buildings are not gorgeous, but they did not change very much after this bombing. He compares them to two beautiful buildings, not that I ever saw them, but from what i hear they are very nice. I am kinda torn on what side to be on. In class I was thinking, how can you change your mind that quick, but when I really think about it...we do not realize what we have until it is gone, or in this case damaged.

It's okay that you're not certain where you stand when you first approach a literary work. As long as you can identifiy good arguments for several competiting positions, keep an open mind and keep probing.
On a technical note, be sure to fill in *something* in the "Title" box when you create a blog entry (whether you create it via an MT Quickpost link, or from within the authoring interface of your own blog).
