Romantic Comedy: "center on a love affair between a beautiful and resourceful maiden, often in male disguise, and a worthy suitor, who must overcome social and personal obstacles to arrive at a joyous resolution." (Hamilton 4)
I chose to define the romantic comedy because it was a topic in my blog entry Intertextual Marriage, so I thought it would be fitting to give a defintion to this neverending cultural phenomenon which no one seems to tire.

I think that everyone enjoys a romantic comedy.
Why is the maiden usually dressed as a male?
Is this because women did not have the power to present theirselves as they were because of the stereotypes that society placed upon them?
I think that people enjoy reading about romance because it is something that almost every adult can relate to. Most people spend their lives with someone else and we enjoy reading about stories that we can relate to.
Lastly, I think that our culture has been formed around romance and comedy. We can see this in your other blog where you mention Shakespeare and his plays. Just think about current society and how people like to go to a comedy on Friday evening to escape the worries of the world and to just have fun.
So, is it a romantic comedy or a comedy of historical romance? Just some food for thought!
Good term!

I immediately thought of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and ohh ohh have you seen the movie Shakespeare in Love. It's word for word a match to your definition and Shakespeare is a complete hottie! Trust me, it is a must see!!!

I can assure you that i am tiring of romantic comedy. My wife makes me watch way too many of them. I do however agree with your title...Romance is Comedy, if you are not laughing, you will kill each other. Romance is really a bit of everything, horror, and tragedy to name but two to go along with comedy.
