This article by Patricia J. Williams is a article that makes u think. Its about how the Government takes many precausions but it takes away from our own freedom.
For more security and to be more safe, are u willing to give up some of your rights and freedoms?
Posted by MaryBonner at April 13, 2005 5:43 PMI dont think that I would want to give up my freedom so that i can feel "safe". I agree the gov't does take away a lot from our rigths and freedoms claiming to be protecting us.
Posted by: Jasmine Urgent at April 13, 2005 6:45 PMI don't know which I would rather have taken away my freedom or my safety? That is a really had question, but if your not safe and you die then you don't have any more freedom because you are dead. I woundn't want alot of the freedoms that I have to be taken away, but I think I would like to be safe and live my life not in fear. Americans are lucky to have the freedoms that we have and to be safe. The government is taking away some of our freedoms to protect, but I don't want to government to go too far in taken our freedoms away.
Posted by: Heather Chicotella at April 13, 2005 8:57 PMI would have to agree with Jasmine and Heather. It is a really tough question. I would give up my freedoms to be safe, but honestly you can never be completely safe. Even if the streets were cleaned up and we had allencies with every other country in the world there would still be those who want to hurt us.
Posted by: Kayla Lukacs at April 13, 2005 9:04 PMI think it is just ridiculous to ask people to give up their freedoms just so the government can take the 'necessay' precautions to keep us safe. I think it is just a bunch of BS and a lame excuse for the government to pry into our personal life. If we give up this freedom to the government, what's next? I guess that's just me though.
