Bernice Bobs Her Hair

"Oh I wasn't thinking about that. I was considering whether we hadn't better bob your hair."

Bernice really wants to have her hair bobed to fit in society and have more poeple look at her and admire her as a women. But when she got her hair done she didn't seem to like it, and everyone had there opinions on it. Brenice seemed to be a very strong willed women with a strong mind and very demading on what she wanted, she was going to get.

You're right, the Bernice we know at the end of the story is hardened and full of resolve. Of course, she wasn't always that way, and part of the pleasure of reading this story is watching Bernice change. She actually undergoes two big transformations in the story, which is a lot of transforming for a short work.

There definitely is a transformation of Bernice as the story progresses, and you seem to hit that point clearly. Bernice wanted to fit a society that was very lavish in their lifestyle. Even her hair was described as "heavy" and "luxurious". That was the lifestyle that people wanted to be a part of in the "Roaring 20's". You completely understand that idea.

I have to write about this story as a part of a research paper on Fitzgerald, and its proving quite difficult. I can't find a source to quote from. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate the help.
