Montgomery discusses how, by age six, her family and members of her community (especially teachers) set her in motion toward becoming a good teacher. She applies the expression, "it takes a village to raise a child," literally, in an autobiographical exploration of her learning and how she unconsciously and consciously applies it later in life. She doesn't overly romanticise her education or wax too nostalgic over her glory days, so I liked it (there's even a horrifying little moment in it).

Reading an article like this, you can't help but reflect on your own influences.
