overhauling the look

Pedablogy.
I'm experimenting with new layouts and designs to Pedablogue, so if things look strange or don't work, consider this space under construction. I still need to organize a blogroll of links. I think I've finally got the archives organized in a decent fashion. Any comments on the new design?

I love the typeface for your blog title. What's it called?
Because I am biased in favor of text, I note that the lower half of your banner graphic is just regular text. You could trim the size of your banner graphic if you just used regular HTML to construct the bottom half. You could even keep the blue wash background, but have the text appear over top of it as regular HTML -- that will help the graphic compress a little better.
I'm viewing your site from home over a slow modem connection, and I'm downloading a big file in another window, so the image loaded very slowly.
At the moment, the banner graphic is shifted about 1/4 inch to the right, so it's out of alignment with the column of blog entries beneath it, and it partially overwrites the "Links" list to the right.
I also like the large labels for comments and trackbacks... on Friday I watched some faculty members who were new to blogs as they learned the ropes. The default template for MT 3.0 uses tiny, tiny type; seeing the labels nice and big on your site makes me think I ought to make that change for the in-progress faculty senate weblog.
Happy blogging!
Ilike the way you organized your date archives.

Great advice, Dennis! Thanks for the significant tip -- I think it paid off! I've figured out how to trim down the banner load time and clean up the code a little now. Let me know if that works better. )(Typeface info now appears under Credits on front page.)

Okay, I think it's ready to ride. I still welcome comments on the new look or any bugs anyone bumps into. In the mean time, I'm going to work up an "About the Author" sort of colophon and get back to the business of pedablogging. Thanks for any and all feedback.
