Another reason why MTV needs to die

Coming this spring... a crappy, stereotype-filled, MTV film that promises to really make Mike Rubino furious. Every year there are hundreds of movies made, and at least a third make me say to myself, "Production studios are spending millions of dollars to make crappy films, when they could just pay me half that and I would make gold." No, I'm not being cocky, I'm being serious. And there is yet another movie coming out that is reaffirming my theory. This movie is the teen comedy: The Perfect Score.

Here is the premise of "The Perfect Score": a group of teens, each one embodying an entire class of teenager-isms, are all pressed to do well on the SATs. So they decided to steal the answers to the test. Wow, Weinstein (all producers in Hollywood are either a Weinstein or a Bruckheimer) that sounds like a nifty idea on this piece of paper! Kids will love it!... wait a second... this movie is going to SUCK. Why? Because you CAN'T steal the answers to the SATS. Each test is different! And besides, what about the ACTS and the SAT IIs? Aren't those just as important? Don't these kids have an adequate SAT Prep class in high school?

Each kid in this highschool-hijinx-comedy has his or her own reasons for wanting to steal the answers to the test. One kid just needs a 900 to make his dad happy, another kid needs to get into a certain college, and someone else wants something or whatever. You have the dumb athlete, the sexy dateless guy, the stoner Asian (which is by far the most appalling stereotype in this sham of a movie), and a beautiful girl to spice things up. Look for all of the normal cliché’s here, folks, including (but not limited to) "crazy dream sequences," "making out on a roof," "sitting around in a living room," "Leave it to Beaver-style parents," and "the idiot gets seduced by an older woman."

All of these things have been revealed to me JUST by watching the trailer for this MTV production. MTV used to be about the music, now it's about sex, drugs, and everything BUT rock and roll. Do I care? No. If I want a music video, I download it. But for MTV to go ahead and make crappy movies that utilized the tired "pop-punk" soundtrack, well that's crossing the damn line!

I realize this movie is about high school kids, something I am now far above thanks to 5 months of college, who look like they are really 23, but that doesn't mean they have to write the script for grade schoolers. Using such tried and true stereotypes (all of which present extremely negative views on teens and their soupy, wanton ways) is a cop out to actually creating memorable characters. And then to make such a big deal about the SATS, which I can predict will lead to these kids all learning the "real moral lesson", is just frivolous.

Now, I don't plan on seeing this train wreck (actually, train wrecks are more interesting...) of a movie. I am making all of these observations from the movie trailer. But if I can gather THIS much from a 5 minute preview that includes the song "Because I got High" by Afroman, then I can only guess at how terrible this "film" will be.

God help us all.

Oh-my-god, Afroman was soooo 3 years ago. (Was that MTV-sounding enough???)

Yum, wanton soup!

Oh, that's not what you meant, was it?

I agree with you completely 99% of MTV is terrible. All it does it portray young people as shallow sex crazed people who only want to get wasted every weekend.

MTV melts your brain. Enough said.

Hahahahahaaaaa!!

Oh, this is an awesome little article. I love it. I saw the movie, and hey I liked it, but only for the comedy, not for the [what the producers would like to pass as] "originality." It's just a typical MTV movie. They all radiate the same amount of stupidity and eye candy all wrapped up in stereotypes that the people making the movie like to believe will "speak" to the generation.

MTV.... I can feel my brain oozing out of my ears as we speak...
