Blogging elsewhere

In preparation for the launch of the new Cellar Dweller website that Christoph (a fellow Dweller) and myself have been doing in Flash, I decided to get the Cellar Dwellers a new blog. The one we were using was a crappy Tripod/Lycos blog... Lycos has no clue how to run a blog.

And so I searched around, and figured it would be easiest to get an account at Blogger.com. In case you don't know, they are owned by Google and are an extremely large blog community. If you ask me, it's kinda like selling out.

After getting my account with them, for the Dweller blog only (I would never abandon this uber-powerful MT baby), I realized how weird it is over there. If I could liken it to anything, it would have to be the Stepford Wives (the original, not the remake). Everything is so shiny, perfect, and welcoming that you almost feel weird. I didn't have to navigate through weird XML style sheets to get my blog to look respectable. I didn't have to deal with crazy settings like MT has in their weblog config. I was able to set up a personal profile for people to check out if they want to learn about me. And yet, it's all cookie cutter.

Setting up a blog for all my acting buddies to post on isn't something that is going to take a while. It's like going to Toys R Us, buying a plastic turtle sandbox (the one that everyone has), throwing special colored sand in it, and telling everyone to go wild. Whereas this blog... I'm building a hotrod or a treehouse for my own personal pleasure and nothing else.

I did enjoy the Blogger "invitation" option. In order to get all of my Dwellers on the blog, I have to send them an email through Blogger, in this e-mail it gives them a link. They follow the link, create a free Blogger account, and instantly they can post on my blog with no worries. And it keeps track of everyone and their individual profiles! That's pretty cool.

And so, here is another metaphor to describe this. The new blog is like a brand spanking new word processor... but this blog is my trusty table-top typewriter. Always coming back to it for the important stuff. Word.

The blog is just getting started, and none of the other Dwellers have signed up yet (as I sent the e-mail out this evening) so I am the only one there. But if you want to check it out, visit the Cellar Dweller Blog-O-Rama
