iTunes Rocks My World
I was sitting the dining hall early one morning, enjoying my hazelnut coffee and a donut, when a girl turned to me and said, "Mike you have the best taste in music! Thank you so much!" I looked at her, wondering how she had broken into my room and rummaged through my vast album collection... then she clarified, "I listen to your iTunes playlists all of the time!" Ah ha! This wasn't another case of breaking and rummaging, this was a case of awesomeness!
Let me explain why everyone should be using this program...
iTunes is an all-in-one music wonder program that was created by Apple when they moved to the OSX platform. It just recently moved over to the Windows operating system when Apple revolutionized the music industry with the iTunes Music Store. One of the handy features within this program (amongst the ability to rip and burn CDs and create bitchin' party shuffles) is the ability to share your entire music collection over a network. All you do is enable your sharing, and suddenly you can see the names of all the other iTunes users on your network, and you can stream the songs on their computers seamlessly (and without taking up any space on your harddrive)! It's awesome!
When I was at home over the summer, this is how my house survived in the music category. My G4 tower has all of my music on it, and with our network, both my brother's XP machine and my laptop could stream the music anywhere in the house. Not only was it convenient, it was simple. It was if I had all of that music on any computer in my house! And now that I am at school there is the possibility to have access to hundreds of computers and all of the songs contained within.
We've already begun the experiment within the Boss. I made my roomies Jon, Josh, and Paul all get the program, and now we all share music. I've heard stories from other campuses that I have friends at, and they tell me that it's a great way to meet people... listen to their music, then find them on campus. Genius! And apparently, some people are doing this with me, and possibly others.
Here is my dilemma... not everyone is sharing their music. For some reason, when you install the program, you are automatically seeing all of the other people sharing. However, you, yourself, are not sharing your music. In order to spread the love, you have to go into Preferences, and then into Sharing, and turn it on. You wouldn't necessarily know this unless someone had an intervention to tell you. So I am telling you... please share your music with me. Unless you listen to emo or Spyro Gyra.
