Pink and Black in 2007!

People told us it was impossible... but when the members of the Boss set their mind to something, they succeed. And that is exactly what we did when it came to voting for the class colors. And now, thanks to us and our persuasive, yet friendly, attitude has now assured our class of 2007 that our class colors are officially PINK and BLACK. Right from the 80's (just like our class itself) comes a "Badass color for a badass sophomore class," as Paul's sign succinctly put it.

It all started at the lunch table early last week. When we were talking about which colors would fit the class best, I recommended pink and black... for no reason really, aside from the fact that it would be most excellent. And rad.

Paul went to work, turning on his super-diplomat mode and headed to the class meeting to represent our choice of color. He had some competition. Mainly from yellow/blue, green/gold, and maroon/silver. The voting would be done by pennies. Whichever container (each representing a color combo) had the most money it in by the end of two days would be the victor. Pink and Black would be represented by a wonderful silver pot, whereas the competition were all using plastic jars... already this looked to be a no contest.

But the team of Pink and Black did face an uphill battle. For the majority of the race we were the underdogs. We underwent countless instances of ridicule and cold shoulders. People even tried to exploit our high school attendance records. I assured them that we were fully capable of bringing Pink and Black to the forefront of the school color race, and that an exit strategy was not necessary because the colors will win for themselves.

The first day of campaigning was rough. Josh, Pawl, and myself sat at the front table of the cafeteria, with our silver pot, collecting change from all who cared. And at first not many people did. We got alot of looks, and alot of people pretty disgusted at the idea of having the banner colors of the Sex Pistols as the class colors. But we pressed on, and found a league of loyal rockers who were willing to support our cause.

We had a slight setback however, when collecting money. Steve Clemens (you know, the loud guy in the theater department... wait a second...) came by and started making fun of our colors. Josh, being the straight shooter that he is, threw a chili dog at Steve, hitting him in his nice, white Hanes shirt. Clemens lost it-- his temper, not the shirt-- picked up our pot o' money and flung it at Josh. Change flew across the entire front of the cafeteria, hitting bystanders, clinging on the ground, and completely missing Josh. Steve yelled and stormed out of the cafeteria while we all stood there in amazement. But, after collecting our change, we found that we actually had more money than we had before he spilled the beans. Go figure!

In the end, Black and Pink won by approximately $5.00! It was an absolute landslide. Press releases were sent out by mail (you may have found one in your mailbox) saying "Pink and Black Punked Out da Competition." I couldn't agree more.

... so does anyone know when we actually see or use these class colors? I'm crossing my fingers for graduation robe colors!

Lori, Music majors get Pink Tassels anyway, male or female.

Your class colors are in your class banner. That is about it. No other use for them, unless you want to start some new traditions. Perhaps Orientation would adopt the Orientation colors to be the same as that of the graduating class. (This years orientation colors would have been Class of 2005). Could make for an interesting orientation for incoming Class of 2010 in a couple years.

As for Maroon and Silver. Those were ours. I'm glad it didn't win.

Pink and Black are colors of: The Pink Ladies in Greese, Breast Cancer Awareness (basically), those gross candy canes, Sex Pistols, Hello Kitty, one of the Powerpuff girls, Minnie Mouse, the list goes on and on.

(Notice the lack of masculinity)

Brian ~ You seem to have issues with the colors we have chosen. Well guess what. It's not your class, so if you don't want to see them don't come to our graduation!

I agree Lori.... a great sight to see.

Everytime I read pink and black, I don't think of the 80's, but the 50's with women wearing poodle dresses.

Hm, well, that's what I voted for with my pocket change... Glad to see my votes counted. Pink gowns would absolutely rock. It would be crazy, but wow! I think it would certainly make a statement :)

Our class from Gilman high school just voted on our class colors and Pink/Black won. Some people were mad and started a petition. So we voted again, this time only between silver and purple and black and pink. Black and pink won again. Now some people are saying it makes our class look like a joke and they are not going to wear them. I personally think it is unique and voted them both times.
