Bush Wins! Liberals move to Canada!

Today was a beautiful day, the sun was shining, the clouds were sparse, and the sunset was an array of oranges and violets. But to me, and 51% of the nation, things shined a little brighter. In what was considered by most to be an extremely tight, but ultimately liberal election, Bush was looking like the underdog. But this has been the day that myself, SHU College Republicans, and hundreds of thousands of volunteers for the Bush campaign had worked so hard for. By now you certainly know the outcome of the most important election in history, and I couldn't be happier.

George W. Bush won the presidential election in what was a total surprise to many. I started my day by waking up at 9:30am and going door to door downtown, passing out literature about W. Then I sat in class for three hours, fidgeting from nervousness. I spent the evening working at the Victory Center, and then watching the results stream in at the Mountain View Inn in Latrobe. It was an exhausting day that didn't end until after 3am.

Even more surprising about this election was the turnout. This election had the highest election turnout of all time, and this allowed Bush to get the most votes for any president in all of American history! Not to mention the fact that he won the popular vote by the largest gap since his father in 1988. He had 269 electoral votes by 1:00am, but his victory wasn't announced until today at 11am when Kerry called him and conceded.

I do have to say that I give John Kerry a lot of credit for conceding and wisely not challenging the vote in Ohio (this elections most important state). The statistics and numbers coming from Ohio all said that Kerry had no chance, of course Edwards seems to think that some sort of miracle will happen (this is because he doesn't have a job now). In Kerry's concession speech, he asked all of his supports to remain civilized, not to cause trouble, and to accept the results.

What I like about this election is that Bush won clearly. He received both the electoral and popular vote, and there are no lawsuits pending. Bitter Kerry-supporters have absolutely no argument against the results. And what's better, the Republicans didn't just get the presidency... we got control of the Senate and the House! And eleven states banned same-sex marriages! Holy cow! So all of those liberal folks who said that they would move to Canada if Bush won... well get packing because it's gonna take some time to get that passport in the mail!

The prayers of so many came true in this election. The nation has chosen, and has chosen for the best. I'm proud to be an American, and I'm glad to have worked for one such as this.

Let the good times roll.

Btw, I did love the entry below :)

And now I'm not forced to move to Canada! w00t! I can't tell you how proud I am that this election ended in favor of the American public--we'll be better for it. I truly believe that.

Why did you turn off the comments for the last post? Just curious.

Because if you read the introduction to the article, I explain that I wasn't looking for a "comment debate" or anything of the sort. They are annoying and a waste of time. I merely wanted to write an all-encompassing article about my opinions with the Presidential election.

Then don't say be open-minded yet close your mind to the slightest possibility that someone who visits your blog might want to share opposing views on the matter. Don't give a double-standard. If you tell others to be open-minded, others will expect you to be open-minded. Refusing to hear other's opinions is not open-minded.

As for a waste of time, did not Aristotle say once that "debate plants a seed that may be the key to truth?" (summarized). Commenting is what makes a blog a blog. You have every right to express your views, and I respect your views; however, telling others to be open-minded and not accepting the views of others sends a double-message: it is one of my pet-peeves.

You have and will continue to be free to post any comment you like on my blog as well as anyone else no matter what political, religious, or social organization you belong to. Color in a Lurid World is a celebration of difference and not similarity.

Don't start... my pet peeve is people that pull this crap on my blog. I've had "discussions" on my comment sections before, and they go nowhere. That's why I call them a waste of time. Anyone who knows me personally knows how much I enjoy a debate, so don't even begin to call me close minded.

I rarely comment on blogs, and I always enjoy a comment on mine. But nothing annoys me more than people coming in here and attacking my methods or practices on MY blog.

And if you read, once again, the introduction to that entry, you will see that I also mention that I don't want the entry to be any longer than I'm writing it. When I first made the post I didn't hide any of it, it was all on the main page. The last thing I need is lengthy comments adding to an already huge post.

Pull what crap? I was not intentionally trying to assult your character. If I did, I am sorry, but the fact is that if you suggest something, you must also carry the baggage. I don't know any other way to put it. Open-mindedness is the quality of openly accepting the opinions of others.

I was disappointed because I could not make any comments with a blogger to which I though was open-minded enough to accept them. Frankly, I did not intend to do any Bush-bashing on the comments, but merely ask questions about it. Since criticism is not your thing, I will no longer do it. It is your blog and your right to refuse. Sorry if I offended you; that was not my purpose.

There is a difference between being open-minded and close-minded. I'm always open-minded, and I'm always up to spreading knowledge and the Great Debate. But just because I close comments on a blog, to avoid debates in my comment sections (which is what's happening now), doesn't mean I'm close-minded or against the opinions of others.

Criticize me all you wish, disagree with me as much as you care to, but don't make me out to be something I'm not. I'm not offended. Normally this will be the point where my friend Paul C. will step in and say something completely offensive... but regardless of if he does or not, I'm done commenting on my own blog for the time being.

Evan,

Maybe if you spent less time looking up pointless quotes on google and more time making sense, some of your posts might actually have been worth reading. Maybe.

Commenting has nothing to do with "making a blog a blog." A blog is an outlet for a person to express his or her beliefs and views in a public forum where people can choose to read them, or not. If someone doesn't want comments on what they've written, it's within that person's rights to turn them off. (Hence explaining that pesky "on/off" button that every weblog has for comments)

Also, "open mindedness" isn't the act of openly accepting the opinions of others at all. It's willingly admonishing that people might have a different opinion than yourself, and listening to said opinion without interuption. According to Websters, "being receptive to the opinions of others." If you just "accepted" everyones oppinion, I shudder to think how confused you would be on every single issue. Mike is one of the most open minded individuals I know, and one of the people most likely to let you thouroughly explain your point before eloquently showing you how wrong you really are.

Everything you wrote you pulled out of your ass. You had no idea what the definition of open minded was, and yet you accused Mike of it's opposite. People who don't know what they're talking about bother me to no end. Thats right, you my friend, are one of my pet peeves.

Also, just for fun as of Thursday, November 11th, you will be banned from commenting on my blog. Permanently.
