Permit This Child

Danny (my crazy brother) turned 16 back in February. Unfortunately his birthday wasn't as sweet as many other 16 year olds' (Mary Kate and Ashley come to mind). This was caused by his inability to get his driver's permit. That's not because he failed the test, quite the contrary... my parents aren't letting him take the test. Now, I love my parents, and am certainly not rebellious or encourage descent, but I just can't understand why they won't let him take the test. No one can understand, especially since I was allowed to get mine within the first week I turned the big 1-6.

And so, in an act of big brotherhood (something I'm not really known for) I'm using the power of the blog.... This post is becoming a petition! Just add a little comment, you don't even have to say anything just a name is all I need, and once I've amassed a large enough list I'll hand it over to my parents. Now is your chance to help out a kid in need (and score me some points for a favor down the road.) For once I am asking for comments, and I'm not even bashing a major sports team on campus!

So... sign away.

I've read some of Dan's comments on "Tranquility Lost" and visited his blog a few times. From what I've seen, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders for a 16 year-old (he definitely has a lot of common sense, at least politically and socially).

I support him on this and think he should be allowed to take the test.

My parents did the same thing to me, and it sucks when they do that, especially when they don't have a good reason. I support Dan too, he should be able to get his permit.

I'll only support Danny if he injures someone in the next indoor soccer game.

Posted by: Pops at March 22, 2005 3:30 PM

I support myself too, and I promise to hurt a kid this saturday at my game, just for you pops.

Yeahhhhh a permit is the first step to becoming the proud owner of a vespa.

Posted by: Unis at March 22, 2005 6:49 PM

Oh dear. Pops, you and Mike are going to have to take video or pictures of this soccer match (of injurious result?)...

Nonetheless, I didn't get my permit until two months after I was 16; and I had my permit for roughly two years. It's difficult to anticipate things like driving, and it's even harder when (as petty as this may seem) all your friends are driving and you feel so dependent on not -only- your parents but also your friends to cart you around till you can earn some respect and tow some people for yourself.

I respect your parents, Mike, for taking a side whereas most parents just succumb to society's assumption to award living till the 16th year of your life. But since I suffered and loathed it, I can sympathize with Danny's plight; therefore, I believe that he should be permitted to obtain his permit.

ok im jsut a passer bye but common sence tells you that the kid sould get his permit. lets sit back and think about this one; he will only be in the car with his parents and if they dont like how he's drivimg then dont let him drive. The permit runs out in a year right...
Im for the KID
MORE POWER TO YOU!!!

I think Mr. Dan Rubino deserves to get his permit. Because I am currently crippled and cannot get mine..so he should get his so we can cruise around and look cool.I mean comeon, I was in his drivers ed class...and he did very well. Sooo let him get his permit..please?

Posted by: Marlee at March 22, 2005 7:05 PM

Yes I tend to agree with everyone on this board that Dan definitely deserves his permit. Go Dan.

Posted by: Jake at March 22, 2005 7:16 PM

Agreed. Let Dan get his permit!

Well, I'm thinking of starting a "Keep Dan Off the Road" petition. We'll see how this thing turns out!

Just kidding.

Dan should probably be allowed to drive, unless he's planning to "do the wiggle" while driving. That would be bad.

I think Danny should be allowed to drive. I stalk him on the internet. Just kidding, I just read his blog all the time. In my opinion, he is much more deserving of being able to drive than most 16 year old males. He's my hero <3

An equally craptastic situation is having your permit and never getting to drive. In Iowa, we can get our permits when we're 14, and I got mine then. My mom let me drive on some small roads for a few months, then after having car problems she wouldn't let me drive. (The car problems were not caused by me, she just said they made the car dangerous to drive.) My permit had to be renewed this year; I'm 16 now, and she hasn't let me drive since then. I just want to drive!!! I'm a good driver. She's just got a new car since then, and it's having problems, too. It doesn't always start. She takes my cousin's van everwhere. It doesn't have any problems. Why can't I drive it?

Anyway, enough with my rant. Get Danny his permit!

Dan NEEDS to get his permit!! because i need a ride to school next year...since i wont get my permit till june:(....so pleaseeeeeeeeeeee let him get his permit. Thanksssssss <3

Just a random blog reader here...i don't know mike, but do enjoy reading his blog. But I agree that Dan should be allowed to get his driver's permit. My parents refused to take me to get mine when I turned 16, even though both of my older siblings got theirs when they turned the appropriate age. And I was never a bad kid!

bottom line..it's just a permit. he'd have to have another licensed driving in the car won't he? what's the harm then?

I'm gona say go ahead and let Dan get his liscense, though I may live (or not) to regret it...

Posted by: Mike at March 23, 2005 7:04 PM

Dan is the sweetest person in the world and needs his permit so he can get his license to drive to school.

I have known Dan since, well forever and he has never done anything TOO stupid.. therefore i believe he should be allowed to get his Driver's Permit!

Posted by: Maria at March 24, 2005 6:09 PM

WHAT?!?! Come on, Rubinos! I got my permit the DAY I turned 16. I agree, Dan should be able to get his permit. *hugs to Dan* Don't worry, we'll root for ya.

This is from someone who couldn't get her license until she turned 20 (nevermind why). Dan needs it!!! Think of it as an investment - Now he'll be able tomake all those grocery runs :D

I think that the young and talented Mr. Daniel Rubino should recieve the opportunity to obtain his Pennsylvania Learners Permit. Dan's influence in the state of Ohio helped me to win the entire election. The least of his rewards could be getting his permit.

Dubya, out.

Hey, if he gets his permit, then license, he'll have to get a car, and thats one more buck for the fundraising car wash.

But Jesus said, "Shuffuer the little children, and hinder them from the wheel, for high insurance premiums are for such as they." (Geico 19:14)
