"The Impossible Dream" or "Pre-requisite of Doom"

There comes a time in every man's life when he has to face reality and finally tell himself the truth. I have been living the past semester and a half thinking that I could pull off a double major in four years. While this is possible for some, to my knowledge no one has tried pulling off a Graphic Design (BFA with 86 credits approx) and a Creative Writing (BA with 32 credits approx). Why hasn't anyone tried this? Because I have learned that it is actually physically impossible. Much like making the board game Crossfire actually play the way it looks in the commercial, this can not be done. By anyone. Within four years.

Basically it all comes down to the amount of time within one day: 24 Hours. The way the Graphic Design program is set up (as with most art degrees) you have to take a ton of studio courses. These studio courses are in the daytime, ranging from about 9am until about 5pm. But because of my poor timing, and the overall setup of the English program, all of the major writing classes are in the daytime. Specifically the ones only offered every few years. This means you have to choose which major you want to develop more (just like distributing experience points in an RPG... holy shit that was dorky).

What are my options? Well to pick which child I want to keep and which I want to sell for organ cash. And since my original intentions, when I started here, were to major in graphic design and minor in creative writing, that is what I'm returning to. I'm not really upset about it, I mean I told myself I would only double major if it was possible in four years.

Plus I handled it pretty slick, taking all of the fun writing courses right away and skipping the terrible boring classes like Chaucer and Shakespeare. I need about three or four more classes to get the minor squared away, and this will be easily done. For now I get to focus on my design degree, which will was probably going to be my occupation anyways.

You don't need an English degree to be a good writer. Or at least, that's what I'm going to try and find out...

Haha, you're a great writer. Just practicing the craft constantly is going to keep you sharp, but your wit gets sharper everyday, Mike. And I'll keep you in check with grammar, since that's my forte :-)

"just like distributing experience points in an RPG"
Hey, nothing wrong with RPG analogies. I'm the dork who still plays NES RPG's on my laptop in my spare time.

After I read that, I thought, "I need to put more points into my initiative score so I can attack sooner."

Yeah. I still out-dork you.

I personally prefer the term "nerd" over "dork." Hey, Steph's right - There's nothing wrong with RPGs.

Speaking of which, I'll have to remember to put more skill points into "Climbing" for my D&D characters this summer...
