"Dueling with Death" or "So Long, October, I hardly Knew Ye"

At some point last week, October stopped existing for me and became just background noise to my increasingly busy life. As if my day-to-day work schedule isn't enough, I've been reviewing movies like mad for DVD Verdict, and getting ready for five (yes, five) weekends of performances. I never actually thought it like that before now, but it does sound a little absurd; especially it's a bunch of different shows!

October is ending with a pretty large Halloween party/improv workshop over at the Cellar Dwellers' theater space at the Beaver Valley Bowl. A lot of planning is going in to the event--mainly in the area of "costumes to wear" and "pictures to carve into a pumpkin." And then after that show will come the debut of the first original Cellar Dweller sketch comedy show in over a year. It's crazy to think that it's been that long... but I guess when members of the troupe get married, start families, move away, etc. that it's good to take some time off and regroup. So the four core members of the troupe are coming back with a show called "A Legend, Indeed." We're debuting it in Pittsburgh, and then performing it in Rochester and at Geneva College.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. I've skipped the most pressing and imminent show... that radio show I'm doing on October 20th.

Yes, it's called Dodge Intrepid: Duel with Death, and is a continuation of that old-time radio adventure serial that I've been writing with James Catullo for the past two years. James and I wrote a special adventure just for Halloween, which involves a good deal of Beaver County legend and history. Plus, the show has Aaron Burr in it--which is sure to please the kids. It all centers around Dodge's quest to find a notebook by the real-life Cyrano de Bergerac, which just so happens to be stored away in the historically infamous Vicary Mansion in Beaver County. The show is being performed on Saturday, October 20th at Cafe Kolache (but I assure you I'll blog about it again before then).

I quite excited to be involved in all of this (as well as another podcast I have yet to blog about). Unfortunately, as always, my involvement in such activities has meant missing out on other things... like blogging, and watching that copy of 300 I bought a while back. I'll get it to it someday.

I say it's about time Aaron Burr gets a feature on your show. I caught up on 3 or 4 episodes when my pneumonia first hit me a few weeks ago... you would probably have appreciated the amount of phlegm I hacked up after hearing the "love... and brandy" line.

Looking forward to more Dodge.
