Summer Update

June 20, 2006

Well, It's official. I am a Graduate Student. Sure, classes don't actually start until tomorrow and I should probably be mingling with my classmates and peers instead of writing, but, um, it's a writing program! So it's okay, right?

In other news, I secured a tutoring gig for the summer! I'm pretty darn pumped about it since I loved working with students in the Writing Center. Now, I'm doing the same type of thing for higher pay! What's not to love?

I'm trying to think of an awesome vacation to take this summer. Nothing can beat Europe, of course, but I need something cool. Anyone have any suggestions?

Here are the requirements:

1) Near a large body of water, be it ocean, lake, or river.
2) Cheap or free place to stay (camping is a-okay).
3) Lots of nature stuff to do.
4) In the United States since I'm not allowed to leave the country until I update my Alien Registration card.

Where should I go?

Well, I haven't been to all that many places around the States since my family doesn't do vacations, but when we went to Connecticut for Habitat at SHU it was beautiful and seemed like a nice place.

Or you should travel out west, see California and the Pacific. I would if I could. I'd go to the Apple headquarters and just marvel at the massive computer store ;) And maybe do other shopping.

If distance is a thing, maybe Michigan would be good. Go see the Great Lakes! The Mall of America is in Minnesota (my dad went there on business once), and there have got to be amusement parks worth visiting or campgrounds worth hiking in that area.

I hope you find someplace cool to go. Have fun tutoring! i almost got hired as an SAT tutor once, but evidently they like you to have your bachelor's already... Darn!

For your vacation you'd go to Apple HQ?

And I thought I was a geek! ;)

The Mall of America was about 90 minutes away from where I used to live in Wisconsin. I went there a handful of times.

Yes, Apple HQ. And why not??? :)

I am a proud Apple geek. Very proud. So proud, in fact, that I still love my Power PC G4 iBook way, way more than my brother's brand-new Intel Macbook (that he just got on Tuesday). Sometimes it acts like a PC... which is scary.

Moira, if you go to Apple HQ please get me a sugarpacket. And a t-shirt. I'll pay you for the t-shirt... :D
