Thanks Thanks Thanks

Thank goodness I lived through high school.

I am thankful for thanksgiving breaks, dead turkeys (sorry guys!), family, friends, air mattresses, thermal shirts, thrift store Christmas shopping, q-tips, kittens, free coats, hot tea British style, and not driving.

I am thankful for graduation in May, letters from Eye Contact (yay!), free DVDs at the library, mix CDs and orange creamsicle yogurt. Thank you for a.m. silences, purring cats, microwave ovens, internet access, and socks.

I am thankful for life-altering vacation moments, bonding experiences with people I love, sweet dreams, and the knowledge of knit. Blessings of thanksgiving to hot showers, incense from India, Yankee candles, goodwill to humankind, and a roof over my head.

I'm thankful that last Thanksgiving I blogged about what to do with leftover turkey. Enjoy!

Thanks, Lou, for giving me this idea.

What are you thankful for?

Garbage on the Hill - Fall Version

Oh wonderful fall... to wear a warm coat with a pretty scarf. Hat weather, my favorite. Cool breezes, a zen moment with some falling leaves. Cinder and cider in the air.

This morning I'm totally digging that walk up the hill, taking in the fresh air and the occasional bursts of exhaust fumes when I notice something. In amidst the spectrum of fallen leaves, I see all the colors of the rainbow: first, I notice the range of changing leaves on the landscape, the different colored houses to my right, the bright blue sky.

Then I zoom in to see the closer details: crushed red McDonald's french fries boxes, yellow slim jims wrappers, blue pepsi labels, yellow and red Wendy's nuggets boxes, the sparkling shimmer of an abandoned water bottles, the pretty pink of an empty package of Strawberry blunts, and, most strangely, an empty box of choreboy kitchen scrubbies. Add to the mix all those yucky cigarette butts peppering the sidewalks and, gee, Seton Hill ain't so pretty, after all.

What's up with this? Do people just toss garbage out the windows of their cars as they chug along? And what's wrong with waiting until you get home or somewhere with a garbage can to dispose of this waste? How sad... another tragic fall. I'm waiting for winter with frosted cake wrappers and snowy coffee cups. Joy.
