Chapter 13-writing about prosodu

Roberts, Ch. 13 -- Jerz: American Lit II (EL 267)

"in ordinary speech, and in prose, rhythm,is not as important as the flow of ideas." "In poetry, rhythm is significant because poetry is emotionally charged, compactm and intense."

I find it amazing how just the way one reads a group of words can change its meaning. I guess because of that one can make a poem have a different meaning every time it is spoken. It is cool.

I agree, Onilee, that's what I love about poetry - the flexibility of meaning. I guess we'll hear that tonight at our poetry slam. But to me, rhyme and rhythm have very little to do with it. I think inflection and tone have much more to do with it. I posted earlier about how I find rhythm and rhyme because so many poets focus on them toooo much and cause the words to lose meaning.
