Remember Nintendo’s Mario Brothers? They were always on a mission to rescue the helpless Princess Toadstool. She was kept in a castle by Bowzer. Mario and Luigi save the princess and live happily ever after, at least until the princess is kidnapped again by Bowzer. It’s a typical fairytale. But the fairy tale slowly ended.
Princess Toadstool is now Princess Peach, and is a playable character along with Mario. Bowzer is not a complete bad guy either, he is also a playable character. With Mario Kart, they all race against each other. Mario and Luigi are considered to be the fastest; Bowzer has a slow start but once he gets going watch out; Princess Peach is one of the slowest characters on the game. I’m not quite sure what this is saying about the female population, but it seems like the start of an insult within the video game realm.
hmm...was this spurred by a certain presentation or two? ;)
Posted by: Johanna at March 1, 2004 01:07 AMPrincess Toadstool was an equal in the Mario racing games and them only. There haven't been any new Marios lately and there is no way to tell her roll in Mario today until another Mario game is introduced.......HI RACHEL!!!!
Posted by: David Howard at March 4, 2004 08:43 PM(in funky-flash voice) You've found the princess. Reaaank! She's in another house. Go away.
What bugged me more was that Princess Toadstool was just a convienient plot device. I mean, hell, let the girl rescue herself! Why does she need two fat plumbers and a lizard to rescue her? Do we ever learn WHY she was kidnapped? No. She just is. Interesting, ne?
Posted by: RachelCrump at March 15, 2004 01:01 PMI have to wonder, along with you, why the name change? I don't play video games often enough to know whether any of the Princess' physical characteristics (what limited ilustration there is--pink dress, orangish-blonde hair) changed from the name of Princess Toadstool to Princess Peach.
Personally, I don't see why there wasn't a part of the game when Princess rescues Mario and Luigi from the evils of the world... Girls can save the world, too, y'know :)
Posted by: Karissa at March 18, 2004 08:46 PMThe newest Mario game with Princess Toadstool in is, I think, Sparrows and Pooseegy: Superstar Saga. I hate the name Peach and I refuse to use it - her proper, original English name is Princess Toadstool, and I don't care about the Japanese name.

First of all, no they can't. Their high-heels prevent them from running fast and anyways, they're talk so much they always get caught again before they even have a chance to leave the room.
Next thing, there are TWO princesses. Check out any Mario Party game.
Lastly, her maiden name is Peach. She divorced Mr. Toadstool a few games back, after she ran off with Mario.
Personaly, I think that the name "Princess Peach" is better than the name "Princess Toadstool". They say her new name on all the Mario games now! Toadstool's are mushroomes and sometimes have poisones in them. GROSS!!
Posted by: Jessica Giacomini at May 6, 2006 08:01 PMI think that Peach has a crush on Mario. But I don't know the other guy named "Mr. Toadstool" that she was married with. But who cares, i'm right now the best playing Super Smash Bros. Meale!!!
