Was Oedipus Framed?

Rix, ''Was Oedipus Framed?'' -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

I found the reading to be kind of hard to read, but i did like the comparison of Oedipus to Macbeth. Both were the protagonists and yet the assasins at the same time. Also, I did not quit get the cultural scapegoat comments?

Newswriting - Tribune story for Tuesday Sept 20th

Workbook (Ex 8-1 to 8-4; 8-15; 8-21 and 8-22) -- News Writing (EL 227)

I found the story about rapper lil Kim interesting. She started her sentence of 366 days in prison on the 20th. She was quoted as saying "This will be a time of reflection for me." She plans on doing alot of reading and writing during her sentence also. She was charged with lying to a judge about a shooting that happened with her entourage last spring in New York City.

Homecoming Pitch

Elements of Journalism (Ch 3 to 5) -- News Writing (EL 227)

I was thinking of doing my homecoming story on the girls volleyball game or the fireworks. If I did do the volleyball game I would interview at least two players and some fans. These games have some of the biggest turn outs at the school so I think it may be a good idea.
If I decided to do the fireworks I would interview people about the roads being blocked and the fireworks display in general.

Newswriting - Worbook acitvity for Sept 26

Elements of Journalism (Ch 3 to 5) -- News Writing (EL 227)

I thought that exercise 8-1 today was very helpful. It helped me understand the correct usage of many words. I never thought of how important it was to use a word correctly or you could get in trouble for giving out false information.

Reflection on group presentation

Peer Blogging -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

i felt the group presentations went well. I thought everyone did a very good job and critiqued well also. We have a talented group of public speakers in our class.

Oedipus

Peer Blogging -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

TEIRESIAS: .The damned man, the murderer of Laios, That man is in Thebes. To your mind he is foreignborn, But it will soon be shown that he is a Theban, A revelation that will fail to please. A blind man, who has his eyes now; a penniless man, who is rich now; to the children with whom he lives now he will be brother and father

I saw this as a foreward to bad things to come. But i am not sure as to what.

Peer Blogging -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

Prejean : You may want to check out some words of JEsus that might have some meaning for you: " You shall know the truth and the truth will make you free."

I found this verse ironic to MAtt. To be in such a situation as him and then to hear this would really make me mad.

Elements of Journalism (Ch 3 to 5) -- News Writing (EL 227)

I felt that chapters 3-5 really helped me out. alot of the topics like transparency, editing, quotes, and leaving out opinions are things mr. jerz discussed. I also found the ansewer to the question what are news bedouins ? News Bedouins are journalists who were not familiar witht the community they were reporting about. They were residents only in the journalism community.

Jeweller's Shop

Wojtyla, The Jeweller's Shop -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

Anna: Through the dark spectacles you do not see the colour of eyes. And yet from behind such glasses you see everything (though peculiarly tinted), without blinking.

I found some of the sayings the characters had about love really touched on how love and relationships are. this saying was one of the ones that really means something to me.

Free

Treadwell, Machinal (Finish) -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

Young Woman: He has wings but he isn't free! I've been free, Father! For one moment- down here on earth- I have been free! When I did what I was free! Free and not afraid! How is that Father? How can that be?

This is the part of the play for me, when I realized what she wanted. I think she wanted freedom from her relationship with her husband. she wanted to be free to love someone and be in love. She wanted to be free of this relationship of what seemed like lies. Even her talk of angels is kind of a foreshadowing of her "flying free".
then again, Quien Sabe!

response to Amanda

Treadwell, Machinal (Scenes 1-5) -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

I agree with amanda ont he uncaring mother issue. She seemed to maybe be a little crazy. She obvisouly was a controlling mother in the past. I wonder if that has somthing to do with the young woman's love and money problemns.

response to kevin

Treadwell, Machinal (Scenes 1-5) -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

I agree with kevin on the harrassment issue. when i was reading act one of the play i felt that i was witnessing some harrasment in the work place. People do not realize how hard it is being a woman in the working world.

Treadwell, Machinal (Scenes 1-5) -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

Young Woman - Do you get used to it, - so after a while it doesnt matter?? Or dont you? Does it always matter? YOu ought to be in love, oughtnt you, Ma? You must be in love, mustnt you, Ma? That changes everything doesnt it? or does it? Maybe if you just like the person it's all right- is it? When he puts his hands on me, my blood turns cold.

I feel that this young woman is in quite a bind. to marry for love or security is the question she faces. I feel bad that she keeps getting hassled by her boss to get married. All she wants is to be in love

Foster, How to Read Literature Like a Professor Intro through p. 22 -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

I found all the chapters to have a likeness to all our stories. I found that chapter 2 connected with heart in the ground with the meal scene turning emotional. I fond chapter three to be like krogstnad in dolls house. with the personality beiing an extreme. I now will look at stories a little different.

act 2 The Dollhouse

Ibsen, A Doll House (Act 2) -- Drama as Literature (EL 250)

"Something splendid is going to happen."
I cannot believe it is coming to what i think is suicide for Nora. I do think that that is what she is planning. Also, the expression of love from Dr. Rank. Shouldn't she use that maybe to her advantage if she could? This play is holding my attention but I am still eager to see if Nora will be able to hack it or not when the time comes. Will it be at this masquerade ball where the "shit hits the fan"
