Biblia Latina
Another treasure turned up this summer. Kelly Addleman, our public services librarian, received an email from a researcher in Germany who has been making a survey of the illumination appearing in early bibles published by Anton Koberger. Well, it turns out that we have one in our possession. We own a Biblia Latina which was published in 1478. The illuminations are so beautiful that I thought I would share some with you. I am also including a letter that establishes its provenance. Click on any of the pictures for larger versions. Also, if you would like to see it in person feel free to contact me or any of the other librarians to set up an appointment.

The Summer of Grom.
Spending the summer with a baby Amur (formerly Siberian) tiger really made for an interesting 3 months. Unfortunately Grom (which is his house name and means thunder) finally reached the size where although he is still a cub he no longer knows his own strength, or the power of his jaws and claws. So his days of spending his time with my sister and the rest of us has come to an end. This past Thursday was his last day at home. I did have the opportunity to visit one last time on Saturday when I went to the zoo for a final farewell. So I thought I would share a few final pictures of him before the bars separate us for good.

He loves to wrestle with hats.

He also likes to nap after he wrestles with hats!

The white spots on the back of his ears are called "follow spots" that the cubs use to follow each other and their mother.

I'm only including this one to show how big his paws have gotten. Notice how the camera takes ten pounds off of my hairline?

He also likes to pose for pictures.

And keep guard under the coffee table.

My final visit with him at the zoo.
This is Toma, Grom's mother, without whom none of this would have been possible.
