Peter Jackson's film adaptations of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy are epic on their own. The cast, crew, graphic designers, cinematographers, and location (New Zealand) have brought Tolkien's vision to life.
Here are the top 5 websites that I believe are the most beneficial to any fan:
1. http://www.lordoftherings.net
This is the official website for the films, and as such, I believe that it has a better level of quality than other related sites. There are many actions for viewers to use on this site including, downloads, interviews, pictures, and much more. This site is also contains information on the December film, The Return of the King as well as other up-coming events, such as ticket sales for the extended versions of The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers coming to selected theatres soon.
2. http://www.theonering.net/index.html
This site is created by fans, for fans. As such, it is a little messy compared to the official site, and you will have cope with a couple of flashy advertisements; however, this is a great place to learn about other fans of the film trilogy. There are a lot of great news-postings by fans about the film and cast members. There are quite a few pages to this site, so timeliness may be an issue, but if you can spare the time to look around, a wealth of information can be found.
3. http://www.tolkien-movies.com
This website was created in 1998 and is still properly run today. It seems very similar to "The One Ring" website, but does not have much clutter on each page. However, there are perhaps a few more flashy advertisements, and not as many pages as the previous website, but there is a good deal of information that can be found about the films, as well as other Tolkien-related issues.
Much like this website is a sort of directory for LOTR information, this website offers viewers an abundant amount of information in which they can find what they are looking for. Also, as this site is primarily based on the films, viewers can find information on up-coming events, cast members, and many more subjects related to the trilogy. However, there are a lot of flashy advertisements and moving pictures, which can be distracting.
5. http://www.tolkienonline.com
This site is quite enjoyable because it has a good amount of information, but is not as cluttered as some of the more commercial sites are. Although there is a lot of information pertaining to the films on this site, there is also a lot of information on the literature, and many fun pages to search. A messageboard is also attached to this site for those who wish to come into contact with other LOTR fans.
