One of Shakespeare's famous lines is "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts."

This man in particular could be actor/director, Matt McDonough, a junior at Seton Hill University majoring in theater/performance. He has been involved in many of SHU theater productions; to name a few: Proof and As You Like It.
As a requirement for all theater majors, a directing lab engaged McDonough to direct a play of his own choice. He is directing a one-act play entitled Trifles by Susan Glaspell this semester.

"Trifles is a murder/mystery but with a twist. It has a nice build to the climax...it'll make people think," said McDonough. "Directing Trifles gave me a chance to go more in depth with the theories I learned...and this also helped me to develop my own directing style."

Assistant stage manager Rose Marotta said, "This play is gender-geared. It examines female roles in a male dominated society of the early 1900s." This project took a lot of work and unexpectedly to McDonough's expectations: "It went smoothly. The whole cast was great, and I couldn't have done it without them and the help of stage manager, Junior, Allison Weakland and asstistant stage manager, Junior, Rose Marotta."

Performances of Trifles are tentatively scheduled for Friday, March 12 to Sunday March 14 in St. Mary's Hall. The performances are free of charge and seating is limited to approximately 75-80 people.

"Everyone's invited to see it; it's going to be a great show!" McDonough said.
