The 2004 season of the women’s cross country accomplishes much as seniors Emily Ciak, Angie Delbrugge, Sara Slade and Heather Eckart qualify for Academic All-American with a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.5 and a qualifying time of at least 20.30 in a 5K race, approximately 3.1 miles.
This award is given to athletes during their junior and senior year, who have a 3.5 or higher G.P.A.
This, in turn, sets the pace for an incredible season. Third year head coach, Tim Creamer said, “Our biggest threat this year is St. Vincent”.
Ciak said, “It’s really sad. I’m not ready to leave”. Her best time of 19:20 put her in the top 15 for Academic All-American.
Delbrugge, a captain, said, “I’m really going to miss being on a team. I just want to have fun and make the best out of this year.” Her G.P.A. and best time of 20:24 at Pitt-Greensburg put her in the ranks of Academic All-American, as well.
The women’s team will be hosting the AMC Regional Championships this year on November 6 at 10:00 a.m. However, the meet will be held at St. Vincent due to the size of Lynch Field.
Delbrugge said, “It’s a nice flat course, but there were some bumpy spots.”
The team would like to express thanks for all the support from the school this year but would love to see more faces at the meet.
"Even though running is not always exciting, your enthusiasm and cheering will help us race stronger and place better,” said Tom James, sophomore.
