A bicyclist pushes onwards uphill; a young woman runs forward, and they both press themselves towards advancement not only in the classroom, but also in all aspects of their lives. Recently, advertisements for Seton Hill University (SHU) have been appearing on prime time television, using themes such as determination and transformation to inspire audiences.
“I haven’t seen the commercials,” said Katie Manni, freshman.,“ but maybe it will educate people that it’s [Seton Hill] not an all girl school.”
“I’ve seen them, and I like them,” said Ami Labuda, junior. “I think they’re very well made.”
For those who have noticed snippets of the advertisement, one might ask as to why the young woman is running in a campus stadium, when Seton Hill University does not have one. Could this accidentally confuse admissions from potential students?
According to Seton Hill University President Dr. JoAnne Boyle, the commercials aren’t exactly supposed to “recruit” students. “The generic message that we want to portray is the idea of a Seton Hill education, using the metaphor of ‘going up,’” Boyle said, referring to the previously mentioned clip.
The appearances on national television channels stunned students such as Labuda. “I thought it was only going to be on a few channels. I was surprised that Seton Hill would be reaching out to a lot of people on such a popular station [MTV],” she said.
The outcome of such television commercials has hopefully not only made the public aware of the university’s top academic status, but also how it motivates each of its students to become their very best.
