Inaugural Football Season Begins

Saturday September 3, 2005, Seton Hill University (SHU) began their inaugural season of football. The team was anxious after a month's worth of practice to finally begin the football season.
The Griffins traveled to Urbana, Ohio to play the first football game ever in SHU history. With a close game of 28-27 to Urbana, the first season had officially started.
Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Chris Snyder thought the game went well.
"I was nervous of how they would respond to being in a real college game," said Snyder.
At halftime, the Griffins were down 9-7. Coming back in the second half, they proved they could work as a team.
"They've come a long way in a month's time. They played with heart," Snyder said.
One player who played with that spirit was Ken Gordon or "Scoobs," as he is known to his teammates. Gordon scored the first touchdown in the school's history. As a freshman running back, he is quite proud of himself, but also proud of his teammates.
"When I scored, I did realize that it was the first touchdown ever for Seton Hill, but I was just happy because we were still down for points," said Gordon.
He said the defense is working well and hopes for more carries and more field time in the next game.
What do the Griffins need to improve on for their next game?
Snyder believes they just need to find more ways to keep improving their game.
"The team worked well together in the last game. They did make some major mistakes that they are trying to correct. They do need improvement on pass defense and running game offense," he said.
The Griffins faced McDaniel College in their first home game with a score of 28-9.
