Steelers versus faculty: competition extreme

On Tuesday, April 26, 2005, six to ten Steelers will be coming to Seton Hill University (SHU) to play basketball against three faculty members and ten staff members at the new McKenna Recreation Center.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event starts at 8:00 p.m. Recently 1200 tickets for the competition have been sold.

"I think it'd be fun. I think it'll be a good opportunity to participate in something a little different on campus other than the day-to-day routine," said Terry Brino-Dean, director of the theater program, who is one of the faculty members participating.

The competing staff members are Jim Chester admissions counselor, Mike Brewer program advisor of graduate and adult studies and adajunct faculty member, Scott Gasper, assistant football coach, Jeremy George, assistant football coach, Marc Marizzaldi, head baseball coach, Todd Welsh, assistant baseball coach, Rick Hall, head women?s volleyball coach, Matt Zielinski, graduate assistant, Garrett Richards, assistant men?s basketball coach, Tim Jones SHU bookstore assistant manager, and Joe Gearde, assistant men?s basketball coach. The faculty members will be: Terry Brino-Dean, director of the theatre department, Richard Hutchinson, academic coordinator of the physician's assistant program, and David Spudy, an adjunct education faculty member.

The Steelers expected to play against the faculty are Kendrick Clancy, 6'3" 290 pounds, from the University of Mississippi, Matt Cushing, 6'3", 260 pounds., from Illinois University, Clark Haggans, 6'3", 250 pounds, from Colorado State University, Chris Hoke, 6'3", 290 pounds, from Brigham Young University, Chris Hope, 6'0", 205 pounds, from Florida State University, Brett Keisel, 6'6", 290 pounds, from Brigham Young University, Lee Mays, 6'2", 210 pounds, from the University of Texas at El Paso, Chukky Okobi, 6'1", 310 pounds, from Purdue University, Joey Porter, 6'2", 260 pounds, from Colorado State University, Antwann Randle el, 5'10", 185 pounds, from Indiana University, Oliver Ross, 6'5", 299 pounds, from Iowa State University, Mike Schneck, 6'1", 245 pounds, from the University of Wisconsin, Russell Stuvaints, 6'0", 200 pounds, from West Virginia University, Ike Taylor, 6'1", 198 pounds, from Louisiana Lafayette University, Deshea Townsend, 5'11", 185 lbs., from the University of Alabama, Keydrick Vincent, 6'6", 330 pounds, from the University of Mississippi, Hines Ward, 6'0", 200 pounds, from the University of Georgia, and J.T. Wall, 5'11", 250 pounds, from the University of Georgia.

This event is being sponsored by the Student Representatives Club. "I think it's awesome. It's going to bring in a lot of money and a lot of people to our new [recreation] center," said Mary Jane Steib, freshman and member of the student representatives.

According to Chester, who organized this event, there are 50 tickets left for anyone who wishes to attend. The tickets are $5 each, and may be purchased in the Activities Office in Maura 223. All proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross in Greensburg and the student representative organization.

"I think that it's going to be a good time. I mean it'll be entertaining for the community, for the students on campus, plus a good way to break in the new [recreation] center and new gym," said Gasper.
