In the past year, local resident Barry Sunder has been working on his first children’s book that will be released in March 2005.

Sunder, a salesman from Hempfield Township and a Pennsylvania basketball official, allowed his family’s childhood imaginary story to take him to the literary world of publishing.

Entitled Reilly P. Rabbit’s Easter Surprise, Sunder and his son, Zachary, a junior at Hempfield Area High School, originally started the story as a night-time Easter tale when Zachary was three years old. Throughout the years, the story had its own revisions and changes before it was even published.

“Every year we [Zachary and I] would add to the story and add to the plot as my son got older,” Sunder said.

With illustrations by Candace Crimboli, Sunder’s story about a young rabbit’s love for the spring season turned into a reality. In a few weeks, the book will be sold in local stores and online.

Mimi Trakofler, a friend of Sunder’s and owner of the downtown Greensburg store Penelope’s, will release the book on March 19, 2005, where the book will be sold during a featured “story time” on a discount for $13.00. Readers will also be able to order from the Rose Dog Publishing Company’s website.

While speaking about his accomplishment, Sunder said that when it comes to encouragement, one specific person in his life pressed him to submit his story to local publishers.

“My wife was the inspiration to get my book published. She’s really the one who pushed me,” he said.

Not only is Sunder awaiting the release of this book, but while he spends most of his time traveling for work and spending time with his family, Sunder also plans on releasing another children’s book, on which he is currently working.
