Jasper Howard, the starting cornerback for the University of Connecticut's (UConn) football team, was fatally stabbed oncampus during the early morning hours of October 8, 2009, following UConn's victory over the University of Louisville. Members of Seton Hill University's (SHU) football team reacted to the news of the star player's untimely death.

Pledges and rallies to resist violence11/05/09


When Seton Hill University (SHU) kicked off its Week Without Violence October 19, 2009, it had many events that promoted how nonviolence could be active in the Seton Hill community. Each day had special goings- on assigned to it, promoting ideas as to how to approach nonviolence. The first event of the week, and one of the more well- known was Seton Hill University’s second annual Peace Release. It was held October 19 at the gazebo near Havey. On Thursday, October 22, Excela Health held its “Next” event in Seton Hill’s (SHU) Cecilian Hall to raise awareness of breast cancer and to help spread the message that “now more than ever, a diagnosis of breast cancer is not a death sentence,” said David S. Since August when Josefa Filkosky’s sculpture, “Pipe Theme in Red-Orange” located in front of Lynch Hall, was painted to a white to blue gradient, the Seton Hill University (SHU) community has been having an ongoing conversation.

Police report buzz10/15/09


According to the police report released on October 13, 2009, a notable difference in the amount of crime rates on campus is significantly lower. The police report is compiled from statistics from 2006, 2007, and 2008. Although the alcohol violations decreased 52% from 2007 to 2008 and the vandalism rates decreased 56%. While vandalism and alcohol violations have decreased, they still remain as the highest crimes on the Seton Hill University campus.

Training students to save hearts and lives10/15/09


The Seton Hill University Student Ambassadors (SHUSA) will host a pair of adult CPR training sessions on Sunday October 18 in Cecilian Hall in collaboration with the Westmoreland-Chestnut Ridge chapter of the American Red Cross.
