Evanescence moves in a new direction | 10/31/06 |
Female-fronted rock band Evanescence is no stranger to the music world. The once unknown quartet spawned their success from the popularity of songs “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal” which appeared on the “Daredevil” soundtrack in mid-2003.
Immediately catching the ears of rock and pop music fans alike, front gal Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody were poised and eager to ignite their rock music, and they did. |

“Little Miss Sunshine” doesn’t flicker | 09/19/06 |
The first description that comes to mind after viewing the film “Little Miss Sunshine” is absolutely chaotic, with a huge touch of rip-roaring humor.
Released in late July, “Little Miss Sunshine” is a film that has been in theaters for quite some time now, but I personally had not caught too much wind of it. |

However summer is nearly around the corner and with that brings sunshine and plenty of concerts.

Celebrity band leaves a “bitter taste” | 04/04/06 |
Some of the guys out there may have a fetish with the movie “Fight Club.” Or perhaps you’ve seen other films like “Requiem for a Dream,” “American Psycho,” “Girl Interrupted,” or “Panic Room.” Well, if you’ve seen any of these films or grew up watching “My So Called Life,” then the name Jared Leto may ring a bell. If it does then you might be unaware that the 35-year-old actor also has his own band that’s on the steady rise.
Splitting his career between acting and singing/songwriting, Leto and his brother Shannon as well as two friends formed the band 30 Seconds to Mars. After their self-titled 2002 release and attention on the singles “Capricorn (A Brand New Name)” and “Edge of the Earth,” Leto and his band caught the eye of many young (and old) fans as well as critics and radio stations nationwide. |

Spring cinema sampler: “ Action and adventures” | 03/16/06 |
Spring is nearly around the corner, but is the box office about to sprout with flourishing new releases? Among the upcoming films released for the spring season appears to be a plethora of action and adventures movies for all moviegoers to feast their eyes on after a long, dreary winter.
In Theatres Now:
“Dave Chappelle’s Block Party” (Rogue Pictures): I’m almost certain I wasn’t the only one extremely disappointed to hear that Dave Chappelle cancelled filming for his third season with Comedy Central, or the up-in-the-air reasons why he did it. Nevertheless, the blunt, controversial man of comedy returns for something slightly different than anything seen in his skit driven television show. Taking a stand-up, documentary spin on his upcoming release, Chappelle takes to the heart of Ohio, inviting random people to his free block party to take place in the streets of Brooklyn. The block party includes stand up from Dave Chappelle himself as well as musical performances by Kayne West, Most Def, Dead Prez, Erykah Badu, and a reunion performance by the Fugees. |

“Brokeback Mountain” has “few, minute good points” | 02/16/06 |
Indiewire Photo Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal star in “Brokeback Mountain” My body pulsated with anticipation as I was handed my ticket. It was wrapped in a pure rant, rave, and enthusiasm about how beautiful and great the movie was. “Enjoy the film!” the cashier beamed. A little more excitement rushed through me.
Nearly two months earlier I anxiously waited for the highly acclaimed release of Ang Lee’s “Brokeback Mountain.” I even boasted my eagerness in the December 8 issue of the Setonian under the upcoming winter flicks. My friend and I swore we would see it the following day for its release, but were disappointed to find that it was limited to New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. I began a new mental countdown until it was out on DVD so I could rent it and cure my insatiable satisfaction to see Jake Gyllenaal and Heath Ledger in contentious, but poignant roles. |
