Clarks give an exciting end to St. Patrick’s Day weekend04/03/08
On Sunday, March 16th Big Brother Big Sisters of the Laurel Region presented The Clarks at the Palace Theatre on West Otterman Street. This is the second year the organization has put on a charity concert involving the band.

The Clarks are a local band based out of the Western Pennsylvania region. They are known around the Pittsburgh area as local rock stars and have been making music together for the past two decades. After 13 albums and even a national appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” they have still been able to maintain a hometown mentality.
“Fred Claus” brings witty holiday spirit11/26/07
It is again that time of year when holiday movies begin to pop up in theatres. When one thinks of holiday films, one may not usually think of actor Vince Vaughn and his fast-talking wit as the star of one.

However, this season, the anticipated release of “Fred Claus” puts a new twist on family Christmas films and the idea of Santa Claus.
From the page to the stage: summer reading adapted to play form09/24/07
The summer reading program at Seton Hill University (SHU) is a normal part of the start of the academic year. Incoming freshmen are assigned a book to read over the course of the summer and come back for a discussion on the book in the fall. This year, however, there was a different spin put on the book assigned for the summer reading program. Not only was the book selected from a different genre than the traditional novels of before, but a theatrical adaptation of it will be the first play performed this season by Reeves Theatre. The book chosen for this year’s summer reading was called “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America” by Barbara Ehrenreich. The story explores the world of trying to live on minimum wage by having Ehrenreich go undercover and work several minimum wage jobs.
Anke redresses Lowe Hall controversy04/03/07

With the end of the academic year right around the corner, there is again the question of housing students for next fall. Every year around this time, one might also hear rumors flying about the housing situation changing for certain dorms. This year is no different.

Students living in Lowe Hall have recently heard that on the second floor rooms 206-219 will be exclusively housing non-traditional graduate students and athletic coaches. Hearing this, students had their own opinions of what they had heard might be happening.

Found cartridges heighten student safety awareness03/14/07

On February 15, the Setonian campus police blotter revealed two incidents involving the discovery of a 9 mm cartridge and a .357 Magnum cartridge on campus. While reports were filed for these specific incidents, they are still under investigation.

Though the campus here at Seton Hill University (SHU) is generally non-threatening to most of the students living in its residence halls, students have recently become more aware of their safety here on campus.

Students walking around with weapons on campus, the thought is a possibility and dark reality of college life.

Minimum wage lowers work study hours02/13/07

Having a work study job proves to be helpful to most full-time students here at Seton Hill University (SHU). Being a part of the work study program gives students the chance to put some money in their pockets or work toward paying their tuition.

However, with the beginning of the spring semester, some students with work study jobs found that their hours were going to be cut down.

Seniors perform one last time at SHU11/20/06

As I walk towards the dimly lit concert hall, I hear the voice of a man singing. I try hard to make out the romantic language in which he sings in, but I feel as though I am in an opera house in Europe and can only sit and take in the words he sings. In reality I am not at any opera house, but at the November 11, 2006, senior recital of Ian Legeion, a senior music education and voice major.

In the Seton Hill University Division of Visual and Performing Arts Program, each student must not only complete the liberal arts core requirements and their required courses for their majors, but must also complete several performances over the course of their studies. This includes the senior recital.
