A Moment of Truth

In the words of Jim Morrison: "This is the end, beautiful friend, the end." The last issue of the university newspaper has reared its head from the depths of the basement of the Publications Office. Arriving into the hands of a variety of people on the campus of Seton Hill University (SHU), and perhaps eventually the garbage can?

Put some spring in your step

Greensburg is gleaming, the robins are chirping, and daylight has become longer. Spring is in the air. The time of year that makes a rough transition from the harsh cold to a warm splendid breeze. The groundhog, Phil, was not wrong when he saw his shadow in Punxsutawney on February 2, 2008, predicting 6 more dreaded weeks of winter.

Sarah Leonatti, a freshmen at Seton Hill University (SHU) said, `Spring makes me happy because that means summer is on its way.’

Greensburg, the little town that could. The city offers a variety of restaurants, bars, and boutiques to choose from. It also offers several tattoo parlors, coffee shops, a natural food store, and a skateboard shop to satisfy Greensburg's sub-culture. There is something for anyone in the `Burg’.

Nature's Way, located on 796 Highland Ave., is an independent grocery store that caters to the likes of health-nuts, vegetarians, and vegans (yes, there is a difference).

The holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas, are right around the corner. Around this time of the year, many like to give thanks by either donating to a reputable charity, volunteering at a soup kitchen, spending time at a local church, or ringing a bell for The Salvation Army.

MOWAA provides nutritious meals and other nutrition services to men and women who are elderly, homebound, disabled or frail. At one point in our lives, we have all succumbed to shopping at a major chain store, such as Wal-Mart, in order to get our shopping done conveniently and thriftily. But what about the small stores who suffer because large chains take their business? Independent stores receive the brunt of the impact, due to large chains moving into small towns and putting these smaller stores out of business.

New and exciting music is at Seton Hill University (SHU). Formerly the Allegheny and District Pipe Band, the Seton Hill Pipe Band was acquired as of August 2007. The band is comprised of 27 members who have been competing since 1993. The pipe band also has seven new members being mentored by pre-existing members. The pipe band had a great introduction to their start of the fall season with the celebration of Elizabeth Ann Seton, the patron saint of SHU. The SHU Pipe Band performed at the event, which was hosted in downtown Greensburg to celebrate the start of the SHU Center for the Performing Arts. `I think that having a pipe band at SHU will bring more diversity to the campus,’ said Erin Waite, a sophomore.
