I spent my saturday at a carwash to help raise money for the equestrian team. We had a lot of fun, and it helped raise a lot of money. Even though I had a great time, I did one really stupid thing before leaving. I didn't put any suntan lotion on at all. I don't know why I didn't even put on any. So now instead of being wonderfully tan I'm burned to a crisp. One thing that's really crazy is that my legs didn't seem to get any sun at all, except for some reason the back of my knees are burnt. I just don't get that. Until the burn goes away, I'm Miss Tomato Face. I'll be away next weekend, I think sun tan lotion is going to be the first thing on my list for things to pack.
Ode to Sunburn
Sun caressing my face;
I think I'm safe.
Brunette curls;
blowing in the breeze.
In the midst of fun;
in the midst of work;
it creeps up on me.
Innocently unaware;
of the harm that awaits.
Stepping inside;
the redness appears;
the pain begins.
Suddenly remembering;
something forgotten.
Number 30 SPF;
suntan block.
Sue, I'm wondering if the first part of the poem might give too much away... the reference to your hair, to caresses, to innocence, work, and fun almost make it seem like you stepped aside to steal a quick and pleasant kiss from a co-worker, and maybe got caught (thus the redness?). But in order to make that interpreation work, I have to ingore that you came right out and told me the poem was all about sunburn.
The backs of your knees? That's very odd indeed!
