A Future Teacher

One of the weirdest things that happend today was riding a school bus. Today I spent the whole day going back to school (well, high school, junior high, and elementary school.) This morning at 8:00 I hopped on the big yellow school bus to travel back in time. I don't ever remember the seats being so small (ok, I guess it was me that grew ;) ) I sat in on an english class, which I really liked. I got the chance to talk to a current student teacher and experience what block scheduleing was like (my school had always thought about doing it but never followed through with the idea.)

Visiting the junior high was interesting. It made me think of the days I don't want to remember. I hated junior high, my friends and I from back home always say it was or had to be some of the worst years of our lives. I had the experience of seeing the meanness of kids at that age can be sometimes, whether it was toward each other or their teacher. I know for sure that I don't want to teach junior high. One thing interesting was eating in the dinning room with all of the kids. My biggest shock was getting my lunch. After getting a few items on my tray with only a few dollars in my pocket wasn't too sure what to expect when I got to the registar. When I was told that it was only $1.71 for my meal I was shocked. Ok, I'm a little too used to having to pay (on my meal plan anyway) 5 or 6 dollars or something like that for a meal. I think that's one thing that I miss, only paying two bucks for my meal.

I thought the elementary school was interesting as well. I will never teach there, I don't think I have the patience. I forgot how small the desks and chairs are. I almost fell over trying to sit in one, haha, oh well.

I really liked being able to talk to the teachers in a different respect. It was nice. I think they really helped me decide what I want to do, I kind of wish I could thank my old high school teachers who were extremely awesome. I appreciate them so much more now. :)

Sue, I'm glad you enjoyed your student observing. I am happy to see someone so sure about what they want to do. Right now I am stuck in the making one of the biggest decisions of my life. Check out Mike Diezmos's blog on teaching for a living, I think you will enjoy it!

I am doing a report for my school about Block Scheduling but don't have that much information. So if there is anyone out there who could provide information on what block scheduling is and how it changed your teaching or education would be appretiated. THANK YOU
