In this first of many, podcast 1 gives an overview of Washington Irving's life and touchs on both Rip Van Winkle and The Wife. Each wife in these stories can't be more opposite of the other. Dame Van Winkle gives the story a bit of comic relief with her neverending nagging on Rip, whereas Mary makes The Wife more of a love story and has the reader wondering if she really does love Leslie for who he is or his wealth. I guess it doesn't matter what century we are in, there is always a story behind a husband and wife.
