• Manet exhibit was held in some of the room of the Doge’s Palace in Venice. We had the honor to observe Olympia and the Venus of Urbino.

o Olympia (by Manet) is a painting that illustrates a milky white nude courtesan, a black maid, and a black cat. This painting humanizes protestation, which in this time period was something that was not talked about. The black cat in this painting is a demonic sign or others say is promote sexual freedom and choice.
o Venus of Urbino (by Titian) was displayed next to Olympia. The difference in this painting is that it illustrated a nude young woman (Venus), her servants, and a dog that is a symbol of fidelity. Even though both painting are showing a suggestive situation Titian’s painting was considered more expectable, but also unapologetically erotic.
