Sample Issue: "Revelation"

Cover for Spring 2008 Eye Contact - click to download 2mb pdf

Because we are combining the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 issues of Eye Contact into a special "double issue" in celebration of the magazine's 20th anniversary, no magazine was published in Fall 2008. Yet many have missed their fix of the magazine. To tide you over -- and to inspire a new submission for (our fast-approaching Feb 6th deadline) we are offering an electronic copy of the galleys from the Spring 2008 "Revelation" issue, in Adobe .pdf format (warning: it is a large, 2 megabyte file). Note that because these are "galleys" the pages are arranged as they are laid out for the printer, not in sequential reading order.

Enjoy. Thanks go out to all contributors for sharing their "revealing" work.

Submit by Feb 6th!

The Fall term is nearly over but as this poster by Art Editor Marie Manski (located outside the SHU dining hall) reminds us, the magazine will rise again in Spring 2009! The "dead" line will be upon us before we know it....

So now would be a good time for you to work on your creative submissions (due Feb 6th)...and remember, we are especially looking for works that bridge or fuse the boundaries between art and language. Be creative -- anything from graphic fiction/comix or storyboards to creative uses of poetic space or typographic experiments are invited! Alternatively, stories could talk involve a classic painting, involve an artist's dilemma, or play with captions, etc. Collaborations between artists/writers are welcome. We do not see our theme as a limit, so if in doubt, send it in to eyecontact@setonhill.edu (please read the guidelines before submitting).

Two Decades of Fun

We are very excited to produce a single issue for our 20th anniversary issue. We are also excited to introduce a new medium: the graphic novel.

Guidelines:

Submission Guidelines:
Eye Contact invites submissions from students, faculty, and staff of area colleges. A blind judging process is used to evaluate works. Submissions must be previously unpublished, and Eye Contact reserves all publication rights for the issue in question, including the right to publish electronically online. Please submit electronic copies for all works, even if a hard copy is submitted as well. Neither your name, nor any identifying entity, should appear on your entry. See below on how to identify yourself. We have the right to reject any submission that does not follow the submission guidelines.

20th Anniversary Issue: The staff of Eye Contact is proud to announce that this is the 20th year of publication. In honor of this joyous occasion, there will be one special edition for the year celebrating creative visions through the fusion of art and words. We encourage all explorations of this concept expanding from fictional prose to graphic design/typography and beyond! Graphic novels are excitedly welcome. We reserve the right to contact the author/artist about changes to the works in order to format correctly in the magazine.

Attach this information separately:
Title of Work
Full Name (no pseudonyms please)
Current Address
Email
Telephone Number (or Cell)
College
One line biographical statement
*We need all of this information for publication.

Literature: Entries must be typed (double spaced), with the title and page number included in the upper right hand corner of each page. Individual poems are limited to two pages and prose should not exceed 10 pages in length. Though not necessary, prose pieces can embrace our concept of creative fusion with art by experimenting with typography. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want your manuscript to be returned. If you submit your work electronically via e-mail, be sure to include all the required identifying information listed above separately in the body of your e-mail message.

Art/Photography: Entries are restricted to black and white works (color items received may be translated into b/w, or selected as cover art). All art must have name, address, e-mail, telephone number, media/medium and title written on the back. Enclose a 3x5 card with your name, college, and a one line biographical statement. Artwork will be returned by mail only if accompanied by appropriate postage. We can now accept artwork via e-mail so long as the file size is no larger than 1mb. We PREFER to receive any digital art submission on data CD. Digital submissions may be reprinted electronically in the magazine unless originals are provided. Most artwork in the magazine is either digitally photographed or scanned -- and reduced to scale for the magazine -- prior to publication. Graphic novels should not exceed 8-10 pages.

Deadline: February 6, 2009
