I also forgot to upload the version with the news hook, and I’m still a bit confused on the concept. Can the news hook be the same thing as the headline?

Jessica, a good headline will emphasize the news hook, but the actual wording of the headline is usually written by the editor who places the story on a newsprint page; the reporter should know the news hook, as a concept if not a sentence, before beginning to write the story.

“The Setonian is Seton Hill’s main news source, but we often don’t get to look at the people behind it. Katelyn Snyder, a sophomore, is the current news editor and editor-in-chief-to-be. Not only does she spend her time giving the gift of information to students, but she also gives the gift of time to various campus activities and service projects. She dedicates herself to helping others, making music and creating headlines that tie it all together.”
Let me follow up with an explanation…. The “news hook” isn’t a separate section, like the headline or the nut graf… every good story already has a news hook, like every good sentence already has a verb, or every song has a melody.
This was more of a reminder to present the story as if it were being published today, rather than a request for any new section.
