Center Coordinates Efforts with CCJR in Planning 7th Holocaust Education Conference
Taking as its theme "Emerging Issues in Holocaust Education," the NCCHE is planning its 7th Holocaust Education Conference for November 5-7, 2006 at Seton Hill University. As a unique feature of this triennial conference, the Center is hosting the Council of Centers on Jewish-Christian Relations (CCJR) Fifth Annual Meeting.
According to Sister Lois Sculco, SC, vice president for administration and student life and NCCHE administrator, the idea to cooperate with CCJR evolved during last summer’s International Council of Christians and Jews (ICCJ) Conference in Chicago. Sculco stated, "There’s really no way to address Christian-Jewish relations without dealing with the Holocaust." Rev. Dr. Peter A. Pettit, CCJR chair, and Dr. Philip A. Cunningham, CCJR secretary-treasurer commented that the two events dovetail nicely and encourage CCJR members to submit proposals for possible presentations. Tentatively, a CCJR session will consider "Holocaust Education in Europe." Dr. Carol Rittner, RSM, who is distinguished professor of Holocaust & genocide studies at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, is keynote speaker. Rev. John T. Pawlikowski, OSM, professor of social ethics at Chicago Theological Union, and Daniel C. Napolitano, director of education at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, are two of the featured speakers. Additional details will be forthcoming this summer. March 16, 2006
