New Class Offered in Genocide and Holocaust Studies Program at Seton Hill

In the fall, there will be a new course within the Genocide and Holocaust Studies to coincide with the NCCHE conference.  The Ethel LeFrak Holocaust Education Conference is scheduled to take place from Sunday, October 25 to Tuesday, October 27, 2009 on campus.

The course offered is HU 205 75 Special Topics: New Directions in Holocaust Education. The theme will be Holocaust Education in the 21st Century: Religious and Cultural Perspectives.

Sub-themes include:

·         challenges and opportunities related to new technologies

·         challenges and opportunities related to the study of recent genocides

·         challenges and opportunities related to interreligious dialogue.

Like the conference, the course will examine recent innovations in Holocaust education, new thinking on the Holocaust and its relationship to other genocides, and its impact on interfaith dialogue. The course will be centered on the work of our keynote speakers, Michael Berenbaum, Victoria Barnett, and Eric Weitz, all well-known figures in the field. Students will attend the conference events, and then deepen their study of the topics raised by the conference through course readings.

The course will be conducted in online, in 8 week-format during ADP Session 2, from October 17-December 12. It counts toward the minor in Genocide and Holocaust Studies.
