Homecoming @ Seton Hill University
Seton Hill is in the middle of its first-ever homecoming. What are your reactions? I stopped by with my son Peter. I was supposed to play in a softball game, but it never materialized. We still had fun watching the soccer game. Go Griffins!

So far, Homecoming has been fantastic!!! Well, except for that Luau food yesterday and, of course, the rain.
The variety show was fun, the swing dancing was awesome...and is still going on, 2.5 hours later...
it was very nice, indeed. I enjoyed myself entirely. The whole day was thoroughly planned, and it showed. I went from one activity to the next (albeit in the rain)without problem. Swing dancing, great food, wonderful atmosphere, good music, dancing late at night--what could be better (oh, I know, no rain... chairs sinking in mud could I have lived without.) Although, since I spent all day having fun yesterday, my books are calling out to me today...
I'll be the one with her nose in the books :)
Well, the few homecoming events that I have attended have been kinda fun.
I missed most of the action Friday night and Saturday because of cross-country.
I went to dinner and some of the concert Saturday night. Dinner was muddy and crowded. The concert was ok. One of the guitarists for the warm-up band Seattle was very expressive, which I thought was interesting. By expressive I mean that as he played the guitar the expression on his face seemed to try to match the sound.
However, I did not think the acoustics in the gym were all that good. The music was one big blob of noise. I did not stay at the concert very long.
Now, I am missing the Wing Expo, the Steelers game, and all that jazz because I have a ton of homework to do.
So it looked like he was playing the guitar with his mouth? Maybe he was...
"With the Mouthesizer, a mini headmounted ccd camera tracks the shadow area inside the mouth using colour and intensity thresholding. Shape parameters extracted from the segmented region are mapped to MIDI control changes. This allows one to control audio effects, synthesizer parameters, or anything you like with movements of the mouth." -- From http://www.mis.atr.co.jp/~mlyons/mouthesizer.html
A mouthesizer, eh? Sounds very interesting:)
In my previous comment I guess I was unclear, sorry. I did not say that he was playing the guitar with his mouth.
The guitarist at the concert last night was playing the guitar as one normally plays a guitar; it is just that the expression on his face changed with the sound of the guitar.
I'm a guitarist and from my perspective it looked at though he was very into his instrument and music.
I don't change my face to match the sound of my guitar when I play, though. Maybe it's because I play a folk guitar and his was electric. :)
So this was the first ever Homecoming at Seton Hill? That surprises me because they seem to be somewhat in touch with the alumni.
Was the concert planned to be outside but had to get moved into the gym? Just wondering because the Clarks concert that was held outside last year was great.
Homecomming wasnt bad at all...hopefully next year they will just improve a few things (the food) and everything will be great!
I've eaten in plenty of unviersity cafeterias, and I think the Seton Hill food is pretty darn good! Granted, I don't have to eat it every day, but I've been pleasantly surprised each time I have eaten it.
My parents were in town for part of the week, and I ended up spending two or three relaxing hours with my dad in the cafeteria Friday evening. He loved the luau food. (I confess I didn't try it myself, since I'd had a big lunch and I figured I'd just eat when I got home.)
Perhaps your dad is a bigger fruit-on-my-protein fan. :)
Homecoming at high schools are more exciting than our first seton hill homecoming...wich is supprising cause so far this school reminds me of high school 100%...
Amy, I have to disagree with you! I came from a very small High School and NEVER have I had so much fun at a homecoming events as I had on Saturday, and I EVEN HAD AN ATTACK OF VERTIGO ON SULLIVAN LAWN! So what I have to say to you is give it time, and I'm sure next year will be even more of a blast than this one!
Tiff
Homecoming was fine. It would have been better if they would have been more clear about the dining services. Several students including myself was given the run around of where to eat at and what time. Seton Hill is upstagin for real. Now all we need is a football team and a new resident hall building and it would good to go.
