A scheduled quiz on As You Like It sprang

And caught some students unprepar'd today.

Soft-hearted me! I bargained with them thus:

They'll blog in verse (as Shakespeare would have done),

And I will grant them an exten-si-on.

You've invented a new form: the "Quizonnet!" I love it.

Since As You Like It is a comedy, not a tragedy, I hope folks will keep that in mind when they get the urge to submit these things to Eye Contact :-) Another stipulation is that EC does not reprint previously published material, so "blogged" poems constitute being published.

Whoops -- I'm gonna drop the free verse thing for a bit and slip into prose with an important question... I've asked EL150 students to blog a small selection of their creative work in progress, in order to get feedback. Could you clarify whether posting a segment of a work in progress would count as publication?

A revised (or subsequently completed) version of a work in progress is perfectly fine for submitting to Eye Contact. I think the staff is pretty flexible about such things. In the real publishing world, there's less flexibility regarding "first publication rights" and when contracts get involved such matters can get rigid.
