Blogging Outage Around March 15th
The machine on which blogs.setonhill.edu lives will be changing hands. I've contacted the new owner, who plans to continue hosting our blogs... when I get more details, I'll let you know. But blogs.setonhill.edu might be unavailable for a little while starting next week.

Blogs Back Up
Blogs were down for about 8 hours due to a corrupted file in the database. Our internet service provider was able to fix the problem,...

I ended up saving what I got on the screen because I didn't know what -else- to do with all that, um, jargon. Let's just hope I don't have to use it.
Thanks, Dr. Jerz!
Okay, I meant to say "faith" in Dr. Jerz... but i accidentally typed "fail". That wasn't a Freudian slip, I swear!
Saving your blog isn't very hard, folks. I just did it! I'm not worried, I've got fail in Dr. Jerz eventhough I've never had him for a class (yet).
I recommend blogging in Word during the downtime. And then when everything is back to normal, just copy and paste what you wrote and put it online. That's what I do when I'm lonely :(
Karissa, when you follow the instructions and get a long page with a lot of text in it, just save that page. If disaster strikes, we can use that page to reconstruct your blog.
p.s. the exporting thing is a real trip. I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm not afraid to admit it.
*sigh* I just hope this isn't more trouble than it's worth. Which, I like my blog, so I tend to think it's worth it, so long as I can keep it...
Do what you need to. I'll keep praying for the safe return of our blogosphere that is the SHU.
;^)
Here's the latest... we should expect "about a day of downtime, probably in the next week or so."
Sorry I can't be more precise than that...
Blog on!
The machine that houses our blogs will be disconnected from the internet and physically moved... after the machine is hooked up again at a new site, our blogs will be available again.
So, unfortunately, there won't be a copy of the site available during the transition period, and the transition won't be instant and invisible.
The effort involved in getting a non-working copy of the site up in order to cover the short gap is more than I can commit to right now. The SHU blogging took off much faster than I expected it to...
As soon as I hear about when, exactly, the transfer is going to take place, I'll let you know.
I assume a copy of the site will be established before switching servers, so that the transfer is instant and invisible...which means only that POSTING and editing and so forth will be unavailable for a short time, but that people will still be able to read our blogs. I also assume that our blog URLs will remain the same. But I haven't spoken with Dr. Jerz and I'm not entirely sure about any of this.
-- Dr. A.
I will never forgive the thieving villain who is planning on kidnapping my blog! You had better return it in tip top shape and condition, or else, and no, i will not pay ransom to get it back.
Karissa, sorry, I didn't see your question... see my response to Mike Rubino (above).
OMG! That's terrible. What will we do without the venting outlet that is the blog?!!!
NOOOOOOOOO!

I couldn't have said it any better myself...
Could you please explain (perhaps briefly in class?) how to keep from losing old posts?
Pretty please with sugar on top? I don't want to start from scratch... with anything (that goes for my formatting as well!).
I am going to be sad without my blogs. I kind of got attached to them over the year and you people are my family! I am going to miss you for a little bit! Keep the blogging community going until that day...!
Mike, there is always that chance.
I plan to back up everything shortly before the switch, but if you're really concerned, you should click the "Import/Export" button on your Moveable Type Menu, then at the bottom click "Export," and save to disk the page that displays in your browser. If something disastrous happens, it will be possible to re-import all your old stuff.
Will there be a chance of us losing our archived posts?
The ides of March, no less!
NOOOOOOOOO!
