From Girl Meets World, under Five Things I Adore About Today comments field:

Amanda,

I've just browsed through the blogosphere....

Is it true??? Has Seton Hill actually considered bringing a football team on campus? And are atheletes REALLY given study halls???

I'm sorry that you will not be able to experience the Seton Hill that I did... I just cannot believe what I am reading.

Even reading the Setonian online, I can see the changing emphasis from academics and the liberal arts to atheletics. Check out the archives from even a year or two ago!

Have any of your classmates or upperclassmen approached the school's leaders or attended any meetings to uncover the real reasons behind these changes? Have you talked about this with your student government? Who is in your student government that is representing you??

With your reporting skills, have you interviewed any professors or other staff members to unveil thier perspective on this issue? You could even allow them to respond anonymously by dropping thier typed response in Campus Mail.

Inquiring minds would LOVE these questions answered. With your skills and contacts on campus could the answers to these questions be uncovered??

Keep me updated!

Amy
~Very concerned alum...

Amanda Cochran's take on it: Can anyone say, "Loss of support (perhaps financial) from disgruntled alumnae"?

Right on, Amy! I'll keep it short and sweet and say that I agree with everything you say. Also, it is unlikely that anyone will take action, knowing how unwilling to listen Dr. Boyle appears to be.

Still waiting on answers...

Is anyone going to take some sort of action or just talk about this???

I have not lost support for SHU-yet. I know that the core group of remaining professors can instill the same liberal education that I have recieved. My concern is for the future of SHU and what are the long range goals of SHU??

In my UN-candycoated opinion, to incorporate study halls is absolutely ridiculous. Time management skills along with the ability to prioritize are VERY IMPORTANT and should be fine tuned in college.

After graduation no one is going to hold your hand and make up a schedule for you. You've all graduated from high school. It is time to grow up and take some responsibility for yourself. If you have the ability and motivation to choose to play a sport, you should have the ability and motivation to do your school work.

The beauty of college is that its a stepping stone. If you need help fine-tuning your time management skills (or any other skill), ALAS! you can learn the valuable skill of asking for help when you need it!!
